Health Aide Positions
Pandemic creates the need for more help in schools
McDonald County, MO – The McDonald County R-1 School District is adding staff to help address a growing health need across the county. The District is hiring eight new health aide positions to help with extra work in each school building due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
School officials say these positions will be working under the direction of the district's RN's to ensure full coverage of health services at each campus. The RNs will train the health staff regarding school health protocols and procedures. Each new staff will need to be CPR certified.
With the continuation of the pandemic, District leaders say the schools need to be able to provide full-time coverage of their health offices and not ask the staff working in those areas to divide their attention with other job assignments not related to health care.
The additional staffing is a change for the district. Many of the elementary schools across the district did have dedicated health staff several years ago. However, due to budget constraints, those positions were combined with other secretarial duties. Now, with COVID relief money coming in from state and federal sources, the district is able to budget for these positions.
According to school leaders, these new health aide workers will be able to help students by being able to address health their health care issues in a timely manner. This will help students receive the care they need when they need it.
District officials say they hope to have the positions filled by the October board meeting.

The McDonald County High School's National Honor Society is sponsoring a blood drive through the American Red Cross this Thursday, September 16 from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. This is open to the public.
